The Punjab government has signalled that this year’s summer vacations may last up to two months. At the same time, winter holidays are likely to be observed in January under a revised academic calendar.
The new academic session has already started in government schools across the province, with officials introducing several steps to support students and reduce the burden on institutions.
As part of the plan, authorities are set to distribute nearly 30 million free textbooks during the current academic year to ensure students have uninterrupted access to learning materials.

Students in grades one to three will receive all textbooks free of cost. Most books for grades four and five will also be provided free, while students from grades six to nine will get some of their books without charge. Students in grade ten will continue to receive complete sets of free textbooks.
To ensure no student is left behind, a book bank system will also be introduced to provide access to any remaining required materials.
Alongside these steps, the government is considering lowering commercial electricity tariffs for public schools to cut operational costs and provide financial relief to institutions across Punjab.
