MUZAFFARABAD: At least six people, including five women, tragically lost their lives when a tourist vehicle plunged into the Neelum River in the Chilhana area of Neelum Valley, as per the report.
Deputy Commissioner Neelum, Nadeem Janjua, confirmed the incident and stated that one child remains missing.
A search operation is currently underway, but efforts are being slowed by the area’s rugged terrain and the depth of the ravine where the vehicle fell.
“The difficult access to the site is posing obstacles in recovering the bodies and assisting with the ongoing search for the missing child,” said DC Janjua.
Rescue teams are working tirelessly, though the harsh landscape is making their task more difficult.
In a separate tragic accident, three people were killed and four others injured after a jeep fell into a ravine on the Neelum Valley, Babon road in Azad Jammu and Kashmir. Emergency responders shifted the injured and deceased to a nearby hospital.
These accidents follow yet another recent tragedy, where 23 passengers died and one was injured when a coaster traveling from Rawalpindi to Rawalakot plunged into a gorge near the Azad Pattan Pana Bridge, according to Commissioner Rawalakot.
The series of deadly road accidents have raised concerns about road safety and the need for stricter transport regulations in the region’s hilly areas.
