Water supply from Dhabeji restored in Karachi

KARACHI: Water supply from the Dhabeji Pumping Station has fully resumed as of Tuesday after K-Electric repaired the fault and restored electricity, according to a spokesperson for the Water Corporation.

The official added that water supply to the impacted neighborhoods is expected to return to normal within 24 hours.

The disruption, which began due to a power outage last Thursday, led to a shortfall of 360 million gallons of water across the city, the spokesperson noted.

Several areas, including Landhi, Korangi, Shah Faisal Colony, Gulshan-e-Iqbal, Nazimabad, Liaquatabad, Federal B Area, PIB Colony, the Old City Area, Mehmoodabad, Lines Area, Defence, Clifton, and others, were hit by the water shortage.

In a separate statement, a K-Electric spokesperson explained that the issue stemmed from a fault in an underground cable, causing two out of 22 pumping motors to stop working.

Repair efforts were further delayed because of still rainwater at the site.

The K-Electric spokesperson added that “the power utility’s representatives are in constant coordination with Water Corporation officials” to ensure smooth operations.
