US-Russia truce halts strikes on Ukraine’s power grid for 30 days

The US and Russia have agreed on a temporary cease in attacks Ukraine’s energy infrastructure for 30 days, the agreement came after a long phone call between the two leaders. The agreement aims to reduce harm to power grids and offer civilians temporary relief.

Both nations will also initiate negotiations on a black sea maritime ceasefire seen as improvement toward broader peace efforts.

While Ukraine welcomed the full 30-day pause Russia limited its agreement to stopping strikes on energy sites insisting lasting peace requires ending foreign military aid to Ukraine.

Technical talks to finalize details will take place in the middle east. The agreement though modest marks a cautious step toward improving the prolonged conflict.
