Unexpected hailstorm, rain cool down Islamabad after heatwave

On Wednesday, Islamabad and nearby areas were hit by heavy rainfall, strong winds, and hailstorms, breaking the recent spell of hot and dry weather in the capital.

The unexpected downpour and powerful gusts brought a sharp drop in temperature, providing some relief from the heat. However, the intense hailstorm caused damage to vehicles, breaking the glass windows of several cars.

Weather officials had predicted “partly cloudy skies with thunderstorms and possible hail” for the evening. Daytime temperatures ranged between 34°C and 36°C, with humidity at 64%.

The Pakistan Meteorological Department (PMD) has forecast that the hot and dry conditions will return by Thursday, with similar weather expected on Friday.

In other parts of the upper and central regions of the country, isolated showers and gusty winds were also reported as a westerly weather system moved through.
