Two patients reportedly lost their lives due to an adverse reaction to an injection, while 15 others fell ill at the chest ward of Mayo Hospital in Lahore.
According to hospital administration sources, the reaction occurred after patients were given the Ceftriaxone injection.
Among the victims was a 36-year-old woman, Noreen, along with another unidentified patient who submitted to the reaction. Meanwhile, 15 other patients have been affected, with three currently on ventilators.
Following the incident, hospital authorities immediately stopped the use of the injection. A committee, led by Professor Dr. Asrarul Haq Tur, has been established to investigate the matter.
Mayo Hospital’s Chief Executive Officer, Professor Muhammad Haroon Hamedd, assured that legal action will be taken against those responsible.
Reports indicate that recent medications were secured without proper lab testing at the hospital. These drugs were being administered without previous testing, and patients were also not tested before receiving the injection.
This tragic incident comes just days after Punjab Chief Minister visited Mayo Hospital and, after hearing complaints from patients, ordered the immediate removal of the Medical Superintendent (MS).
