Toyota has officially introduced the all-new sixth-generation RAV4, showcasing a bold step into the era of software-driven vehicles with the launch of its innovative Arene software platform.

The new RAV4, featuring hybrid and plug-in hybrid options, including a GR Sport trim, will arrive in Australia in 2026. It boasts improved digital functions such as a smarter multimedia system, voice assistant, and the enhanced T-Mate safety suite.

“This marks the start of our journey in building software-defined vehicles,” said Simon Humphries, Toyota’s Chief Branding Officer. “Arene allows for advanced digital capabilities in safety, navigation, and user experience.”

The plug-in hybrid version, powered by a 22.7kWh lithium-ion battery, delivers a 100km electric range (WLTP-certified) and supports fast DC charging from 10% to 80% in 30 minutes. It also offers faster home charging with an 11kW AC onboard charger.

Performance is impressive, with the AWD version producing up to 304 DIN hp and achieving 0-100 km/h in just 5.8 seconds. A lower center of gravity and a more rigid chassis contribute to better handling.

A geo-fencing feature helps switch between electric and hybrid modes based on location, traffic, and environmental zones, aiming to maximize efficiency.

On the safety front, the RAV4 debuts enhanced Toyota Safety Sense features like Lane Change Assist, Front Cross Traffic Alert, and a more advanced Pre-Collision System that can detect head-on threats, cyclists, and motorbikes. It also introduces a Remote Park feature controlled via smartphone.

The GR Sport model adds a sporty flair with a wider track, performance-tuned suspension, and unique styling cues.

Inside, a 12.9-inch infotainment display and a 12.3-inch digital driver cluster offer crisp visuals and smoother interactions. These systems are kept fresh through over-the-air updates.

The new MyToyota app brings features like Smart Digital Key+, remote control, and media streaming, further enhancing convenience and connectivity for users.
