Karachi: Schools and other educational institutions in Jamshoro district of Sindh will remain closed for three days, giving students a long weekend starting from February 15.
Authorities recently issued a notification declaring a local holiday in Jamshoro on February 17 (Monday) in connection with the annual Urs of Saint Lal Shahbaz Qalandar.
Since February 15 and 16 fall on Saturday and Sunday, students in Jamshoro will enjoy three consecutive holidays, as schools will remain closed on February 17 due to the local holiday. Educational institutions are set to reopen on February 18, Tuesday.
The annual Urs celebrations will commence on Monday and continue for three days, featuring various cultural and spiritual activities. Highlights of the event include a literary conference, traditional Sindhi wrestling (Malakhro), and the lively Dhamal dance.
To facilitate devotees, provincial authorities have set up camps at the shrine to ensure smooth access and assistance during the celebrations.
The Urs of Lal Shahbaz Qalandar is observed annually from Shaban 18 to 20 at Sehwan Sharif and draws one of the largest religious gatherings in Pakistan. People from Sindh, Punjab, and other regions come together to pay tribute to the revered Sufi saint.
Meanwhile, stringent security measures will be in place to ensure safety and prevent any untoward incidents during the event.
