The ongoing heatwave in South Punjab has led to a noticeable increase in skin-related issues, according to medical professionals.
Dr. Waqas Arqam Malik, a skin specialist, explained that high temperatures and excessive sweating are causing a spike in fungal infections, rashes, acne, and unpleasant body odour.
He noted that blocked sweat pores create an ideal environment for bacteria and fungi to thrive, particularly in those with oily or sensitive skin.
Clinics are seeing more patients with conditions such as prickly heat, underarm infections, foot fungus, and rashes in areas where skin folds.
“If left untreated, such conditions can lead to pigmentation and recurring skin inflammation,” Dr. Malik warned.
To manage these issues, he urged people to maintain good hygiene by showering twice daily during heavy sweating, using antifungal powders on sensitive areas, and avoiding thick creams and makeup that can clog pores.
He also recommended wearing light, loose cotton clothing, staying well-hydrated, and changing sweat-drenched clothes frequently.
Lastly, he advised the public to avoid direct sun exposure between 11am and 4pm and to apply sunscreen before going outdoors.
