Sindh Chief Minister Murad Ali Shah has declared a province-wide ban on plastic shopping bags, set to take effect from June 15, 2025.
In his message for World Environment Day, CM Murad highlighted this year’s global theme of tackling plastic pollution and called for unified efforts to shield the environment from the damage caused by plastic waste.
He appealed to the public to reduce plastic use and embrace more sustainable, eco-conscious habits.
Shah noted that the Sindh government has already kicked off a province-wide cleanup campaign and is enforcing laws aimed at curbing plastic use.
“Our dream is a plastic-free Sindh, and we must work together to turn this vision into reality,” he said.
To support the shift away from plastic, the government is encouraging the use of reusable cloth and paper bags.
Alongside this, efforts are underway to expand tree plantations, grow mangroves, support recycling businesses, and clean the province’s natural waterways.
The government is also partnering with schools and community organizations to spread environmental awareness and encourage lasting change.
