Karachi: The Sindh government has announced a final deadline for vehicle owners to replace their current number plates with the new Ajrak design.
Sindh Minister for Excise Mukesh Kumar Chawla has warned that after April 3, only vehicles with the new Ajrak-designed number plates will be considered valid across the province.
This announcement was made during an implementation meeting chaired by Chawla, who is also responsible for taxation and narcotics control.
The meeting was attended by Secretary Excise Muhammad Saleem Rajput, DIG Traffic Police Karachi Ahmed Nawaz, officials from the National Highway Authority (NHA), Safe City officers, and other relevant officials, according to reports.
During the meeting, Provincial Minister Chawla was thoroughly briefed by Secretary Excise Rajput and DIG Traffic Police Karachi Nawaz on the progress of implementation.
Chawla emphasized the need to develop a joint action plan to ensure the payment of fines related to motor vehicle taxes and traffic violations.
To facilitate citizens, counter desks will be set up at the Civic Centre and Excise Department Facilitation Centres for a one-window operation. Additionally, arrangements will be made to acquire the new number plates at traffic police checkpoints.
The minister directed that traffic police personnel should be deployed at road checkpoints in the future. He also stressed the integration of traffic challans and Motor Vehicle Registration (MVR) taxes, urging both departments to support each other in collecting dues.
He mentioned that the Excise Department will assist the traffic police by providing records of outstanding challans.
With the introduction of joint measures and enhanced online systems, pending MVR taxes and traffic challans will be identified and collected from a single platform.
Chawla further instructed the Sindh Excise Secretary to promptly prepare a proposal to streamline this initiative.
