Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif resigned from his position as President of the Pakistan Muslim League (PML-N) on Monday.
The PML-N Central Council has scheduled a meeting for May 18 in Lahore to select the acting President as per Article 15 of the party Constitution.
The Central Majlis-e-Amila of the Party will suggest Mian Muhammad Nawaz Sharif as the acting President, with the PML-N General Council, set to confirm his presidency on May 28.
Former interior minister Rana Sanaullah, an important figure in the PML-N, announced the party’s leadership developments. He revealed that Nawaz Sharif, previously expelled from the presidency of the PML-N under questionable circumstances, will reclaim the position.
Sanaullah emphasized that they have addressed all hurdles to Nawaz Sharif’s return to leadership, positioning him to guide the party’s future activities.
He urged Nawaz Sharif to resume his role as party president, underscoring Maryam Nawaz’s leadership in providing relief in Punjab and guaranteeing to continue the party’s developmental efforts for the nation.
Previously, during an organizational meeting at the Model Town Secretariat, the PML-N Punjab generally passed a resolution advocating for Nawaz Sharif’s return as party president. The resolution highlighted his disqualification in 2017, which was seen as a plan to forcibly remove him from leadership.
