Saudi Arabia imposes cash, gold limits on Hajj pilgrims

As millions of pilgrims arrive in Saudi Arabia for the annual Hajj, the Kingdom has strengthened customs rules, requiring travellers to declare cash or valuables over SR 60,000 (around $16,000) when entering or leaving the country.

The Ministry of Hajj and Umrah announced this directive to promote transparency and uphold financial regulations during one of the world’s largest religious gatherings.

The rule applies not only to cash but also to valuable items like gold bars, precious metals, and gemstones.

Officials emphasise that declaring these helps protect travellers’ rights and ensures compliance with Saudi Arabia’s financial and legal standards.

Those who don’t follow this requirement risk fines, legal penalties, or delays in travel.

“This measure is part of an ongoing awareness initiative to ensure pilgrims have a secure, smooth, and legally compliant Hajj experience,” the ministry said.
