Samsung Rugged Galaxy Tab Active 5 now available: Feature 5,050mAh battery, FHD display

Samsung’s new rugged tablet, the Galaxy Tab Active 5, is now available for purchase in the US after its announcement in January 2024. It’s modified for business use and is an improvement over the previous model, the Galaxy Tab Active 4 Pro.

The Galaxy Tab Active 5 is designed to survive tough conditions, boasting MIL-STD-810H certification and a protective case that can endure drops from 12 meters. It’s also dustproof, waterproof (with an IP68 rating), and scratch-resistant with Gorilla Glass 5.

Key features include an 8-inch FHD display with a 120Hz refresh rate, a 13MP rear camera, and a 5MP selfie camera.

Under the hood, it runs on the Exynos 1380 chipset with options for 6GB or 8GB of RAM and 128GB or 256GB of storage, expandable via microSD card. It currently runs on Android 12, with an upgrade expected later.

Powering the device is a 5,050mAh battery, and it offers security features like a side fingerprint scanner and a dedicated Active key. Connectivity options include dual SIM, 5G, Pogo PIN, USB-C, and Wi-Fi 6.

Pricing starts at $548.99 for the standard model, with a 5G version priced at $659, catering primarily to business needs in rugged environments.
