Businessman Salman Farooqi arrested for assaulting motorcyclist in Karachi

KARACHI: Businessman Salman Farooqi has been taken into custody for allegedly attacking a young man riding a motorcycle in Karachi’s Defence Housing Authority (DHA), police confirmed on Monday.

A video of the incident, showing Farooqi physically assaulting the biker in front of his sister, spread quickly on social media, leading to public anger and demands for action.

DIG Asad Raza said that Farooqi was arrested after a detailed technical investigation. Police also carried out searches at his home and office as part of the case.

A case has been filed at Gizri Police Station, where Farooqi faces charges of threatening to kill, assault, and publicly shaming the victim, following a complaint by eyewitness Muhammad Saleem.

Saleem, who works as a sales manager at a mobile company, said he had gone to Ittehad Commercial in DHA for work when a minor accident occurred involving a biker and some women, according to ARY News.

After the mishap, Farooqi, who was driving a car, allegedly attacked the motorcyclist. According to Saleem, Farooqi and his guard forcibly dragged the victim into their vehicle at gunpoint, where they beat and abused him while threatening him with further harm.

Despite the women’s repeated requests to stop, Farooqi reportedly pushed them away and continued his aggression.

Saleem added that several passersby witnessed the entire incident, and many shared videos of it online, which helped bring attention to the case.

Authorities are now working to track down the victim and his family to ensure they receive support and protection during the investigation.

As per his profile and user reports, he is a chief executive officer at Bionic Films from around 11 years.
