Relief from heatwave as rain expected from June 13

The Pakistan Meteorological Department (PMD) has predicted a series of dust storms and rain-thundershowers with breaks in between across northern and central regions of the country from June 13 to 16.

This development is expected to bring relief from the ongoing intense heatwave.

According to the Met Office, moisture-laden winds are already making their way into northern areas, and a westerly weather system is likely to arrive on June 13.

These conditions are expected to trigger dust storms and scattered rain-thundershowers, with a chance of isolated hail, in areas including Kashmir, Gilgit-Baltistan, Murree, Galliyat, Chitral, Dir, Swat, Malakand, Mansehra, Battagram, Shangla, Kohistan, and Abbottabad throughout the forecast period.

Similarly, dust storms and thunderstorms are also anticipated in all districts of southern Punjab and upper Sindh during the same timeframe.

The PMD cautioned that strong winds, hail, and lightning could potentially damage weak or unsecured structures.
