  • Teaser released for Shoaib Akhtar biopic despite his disassociation from the project.
  • Legal disputes between Akhtar and film makers.
  • Mirza Gohar Rasheed replaces Umair Jaswal as the lead.

Former cricketer Shoaib Akhtar’s biopic “Rawalpindi Express – A Shoaib Akhtar Biopic” released a teaser on Instagram, despite Akhtar’s decision to distance himself from the project’s production. This move follows reported legal conflicts between Akhtar and the film’s creators. In a noteworthy alteration, Mirza Gohar Rasheed now takes on the lead role, replacing Umair Jaswal.

Initially, Akhtar had shown enthusiasm for the biopic when it was announced in July of the previous year. However, in January, he announced his decision to cut ties with the project due to “disagreements” and perceived “contractual violations.” He expressed intentions to pursue “legal action” against any misuse of his name and life story.

Directed by Muhammad Faraz Qaiser and produced by Kafeel Anwar, the film features an ensemble cast including Faran Tahir, Salman Shahid, and others. Shoaib Akhtar, known for his speedy bowling style and a career marked by controversies, retired in 2011. He also penned an autobiography, “Controversially Yours,” in 2011. Presently, he engages with a substantial audience through his widely followed YouTube channel, where he interacts with sports figures and fans.
