Intermittent rain and windstorms are expected to hit Islamabad, Rawalpindi, and various other regions of Pakistan starting Thursday night and continuing through Friday and Saturday, according to the Pakistan Meteorological Department (PMD).
The current weather system, driven by a westerly wave, is affecting the upper parts of the country.
As a result, scattered showers and gusty winds are forecast for the twin cities, parts of the Potohar region, northeastern Punjab, upper Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, Kashmir, and Gilgit-Baltistan over the coming days.
Some areas in Kashmir, the Potohar region, and upper Khyber Pakhtunkhwa may also experience heavy downpours and hailstorms during this period.
Islamabad is expected to see daytime temperatures between 36°C and 38°C on Friday and Saturday, rising slightly to 37°C to 39°C on Sunday. Rawalpindi will likely remain slightly cooler, with highs ranging from 34°C to 36°C on Friday and Saturday, and 35°C to 37°C on Sunday.
The last 24 hours brought scorching heat across much of Pakistan, with dry conditions prevailing in most areas. Some isolated spots in upper Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, Kashmir, and Gilgit-Baltistan received rainfall and windstorms.
Rainfall totals included:
- Khyber Pakhtunkhwa: Pattan 9mm, Kalam 3mm
- Kashmir: Garhi Dupatta 5mm, Muzaffarabad City 2mm
- Gilgit-Baltistan: Bagrote 3mm, Gilgit and Bunji 1mm each
The hottest areas recorded were Jacobabad, Mohenjo-Daro, Nawabshah, and Sibbi at a sweltering 48°C. Dera Ghazi Khan, Dadu, Larkana, and Turbat followed closely at 47°C.
In Islamabad and Rawalpindi, the mercury hit 40°C. Evening humidity was logged at 34% in Islamabad and 50% in Rawalpindi.
