Upon their arrival in France for a state visit on Wednesday afternoon, King Charles and Queen Camilla had an eventful start, with a minor mishap narrowly avoided by Queen Camilla. The Queen, at 76, looked elegant in a pink dress by Fiona Clare and a Philip Treacy hat.

As she descended the airplane stairs, a sudden gust of wind caught her off guard, prompting her to firmly hold onto her hat and a Charlotte Elizabeth crossbody beige handbag. Additionally, Queen Camilla experienced a moment reminiscent of Marilyn Monroe, but she swiftly composed herself to prevent any wardrobe malfunctions caused by the wind.

The royal couple arrived in France via a private plane and received an official welcome from French Prime Minister Elisabeth Borne and the French government. The welcoming party also included foreign secretary James Cleverly, the UK’s ambassador to France, Dame Menna Rawlings, and the French Ambassador to the UK, Hélène Tréheux-Duchêne.

They warmly greeted the royals at the base of the stairs, accompanied by a guard of honor consisting of one officer and 20 guardsmen, as reported by The Mirror.

This marks the first state visit for King Charles and Queen Camilla since their ascent to the throne. Originally scheduled for March, their trip to France was postponed due to nationwide protests against the country’s increasing retirement age.

Notably, this visit is King Charles’ 35th official visit to France and Queen Camilla’s ninth official visit. Over the course of three days, the royal couple will split their time between Paris and Bordeaux, engaging in a total of 21 high-profile engagements.
