Punjab weather update: Extreme heatwave expected, PDMA issues safety guidelines

With rising temperatures, the Provincial Disaster Management Authority (PDMA) Punjab has called on authorities across the province to strengthen preparations for an expected heatwave.

The PDMA has warned that temperatures could climb 4 to 7°C above normal this month, with southern Punjab expected to be the hardest hit.

In response, Director General PDMA Irfan Ali Kathia has directed deputy commissioners to implement protective measures in public areas to safeguard residents from extreme heat.

To protect children from heat-related risks, the School Education Department has suspended all outdoor activities in schools.

In Lahore, schools have been asked to display banners at their entrances with safety guidelines to raise awareness among students and parents.

Farmers have also been cautioned about the potential impact of high temperatures on crops, and awareness campaigns are being planned to assist them in managing the situation.

Additionally, local authorities have been tasked with ensuring the availability of drinking water at public places to help citizens cope with the heat.

Livestock markets are receiving special attention, with round-the-clock services ordered at veterinary centers and water facilities set up at animal markets to protect animals from heat stress.

Hospitals have been instructed to set up special counters to handle heat-related illnesses efficiently. Citizens are advised to stay indoors during peak heat hours, stay hydrated, and wear head coverings if they must step outside.
