Punjab heatwave alert: Schools may begin summer vacations early

Temperature levels continue to rise across the country, particularly in Punjab and Sindh, prompting a heatwave alert and a fresh advisory from the Provincial Disaster Management Authority (PDMA) and other relevant departments.

In response to the extreme weather conditions, the PDMA has issued an urgent advisory to educational authorities, urging them to take necessary precautions to protect students and staff.

The advisory, which has been sent to both the School Education and Higher Education Departments, recommends altering school and college schedules to avoid exposure to peak heat hours.

Additionally, discussions are underway regarding the possibility of early summer vacations to shield students from the scorching temperatures.

Summer Vacations 2025

If the Pakistan Meteorological Department’s (PMD) predictions hold true and temperatures continue to soar, summer holidays could start before mid-May 2025, according to unofficial sources.

The advisory further stresses the need for schools and colleges to ensure a constant supply of clean and cool drinking water while encouraging students to wear lightweight and breathable clothing to stay comfortable.

These proactive measures by the PDMA aim to safeguard students and faculty from the risks posed by the intense heatwave.

The PMD has forecasted above-average temperatures in late April, and further updates regarding the exact start of summer vacations will be announced in the coming days.
