Punjab govt launches registration for E-Taxi project

The Punjab government has officially opened registrations for its E-Taxi project, part of Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz’s Green & Clean Transport initiative.

Launched as a pilot effort in Lahore, the program is being carried out in partnership with the Transport and Masstransit Department and the Bank of Punjab.

The goal is to introduce electric taxis as a safer, more affordable, and eco-friendly transportation option for city dwellers.

To move this forward, the department is inviting Original Equipment Manufacturers (OEMs), authorized local dealers, distributors, and joint ventures to submit electric vehicle models that meet the required standards for taxi use.

These approved models will be compiled into a list of eligible electric vehicles that meet all safety and performance criteria.

Interested parties must submit their applications, along with required documentation, to the Transport and Mass Transit Department by 11:00 AM on Tuesday, June 24, 2025, at the department’s office on 11-A Egerton Road, Lahore.

To support the switch to electric taxis, the government will provide a financial package, including help with equity payments, a five-year loan through the Bank of Punjab, and partial coverage of vehicle registration fees.

Applicants can choose their vehicle from a pre-approved list. Financing of up to Rs. 6.5 million per vehicle will be available, and any cost beyond that must be covered by the buyer.

A clarification session is scheduled for Thursday, June 12, 2025, at 2:00 PM in the department’s committee room to assist those interested. Meeting details and documents will also be uploaded to the department’s website.
