The Punjab government has decided to shorten public school hours by 30 minutes during the summer season, with the new schedule taking effect from April 7 to October 15.
As per a notification from the School Education Department (SED), single-shift schools will now run from 7:30 AM to 1:00 PM from Monday to Thursday, while on Fridays, classes will conclude at 11:30 AM, half an hour earlier than before.
For double-shift schools, the morning session will operate from 7:30 AM to 12:00 PM on weekdays and until 11:30 AM on Fridays.
Meanwhile, the evening session will be held from 12:00 PM to 4:00 PM from Monday to Thursday, with Friday hours set between 2:30 PM and 4:00 PM.
The District Education Authority (DEA) has directed its chief executive officers (CEOs) to ensure strict enforcement of the revised timetable, warning that any violations may result in legal action.
Additionally, the notification allows a 15-minute flexibility in opening and closing times for boys’ and girls’ schools, depending on specific local needs.
