Karachi: The Pakistan Telecommunication Authority (PTA) has issued a reminder notification for international travellers bringing smartphones into Pakistan.
In an effort to regulate mobile device usage and to ensure compliance with telecomunnication laws, Travellers must meet their tax obligations with the Federal Board of Revenue (FBR) for mobile device registration through the Device Identification, Registration, and Blocking System (DIRBS).
To assist international visitors, the PTA provides a temporary registration option for those staying in Pakistan for a short period.
However, for travellers staying more than 120 days and using a mobile network regularly, it is necessary to register their devices and pay the applicable taxes set by FBR. This will ensure the devices are recognized by national networks, avoiding service disruptions.
It is strongly recommended that international travellers complete the device registration process via DIRBS and settle their FBR tax obligations promptly to prevent any interruptions in service.
For more details on tax rates and the registration procedure, travellers can visit the official FBR website.
It’s crucial to understand that FBR is responsible for collecting the taxes for mobile device registration, while the PTA oversees the registration process through DIRBS.
By fulfilling these tax requirements, travellers ensure uninterrupted access to local mobile networks and help enforce national telecommunications policies.
The PTA is dedicated to maintaining a transparent and efficient telecommunications environment, striving to register all devices in the country and secure the integrity of Pakistan’s mobile bandwidth while ensuring compliance with regulations.
