President Zardari pledges to eradicate terrorism in Balochistan

President Asif Ali Zardari visited Quetta on Wednesday, stressing the urgent need to eliminate terrorism and ensure lasting peace in Balochistan. His visit followed recent attacks, including a train hijacking and suicide blast that killed dozens.

During a security briefing, Zardari declared, “Terrorists will be defeated at all costs. They aim to divide us, but the state will survive.”

He promised modern weapons for counter-terrorism forces and emphasized education reforms. “Every child in Balochistan must attend school and learn modern technology,” he said.

Balochistan Chief Minister Mir Sarfraz Bugti updated the president on provincial security. The meeting included PPP Chairman Bilawal Bhutto-Zardari and senior officials.

Zardari later met opposition leaders, assuring them of efforts to address public grievances. “We win hearts by granting rights, not taking them,” he stated.

Recent attacks, including the Jaffar Express hijacking and a suicide bombing, claimed over 30 lives. Security forces killed 33 militants during the train rescue. The Balochistan Liberation Army (BLA) claimed responsibility for both incidents.

Army Chief General Asim Munir recently urged better governance and national unity to combat terrorism. “This is a war for our future,” he said, advocating Pakistan’s transformation into a “hard state.”

Zardari announced plans to hold public forums after Eid ul Fitr to listen to citizen concerns. Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif and parliamentary leaders earlier called for unified action under counter-terrorism plans like the National Action Plan.

The president’s visit highlights efforts to stabilize Balochistan through security, education, and dialogue, amid calls for political resolve to end violence.
