Petrol, diesel prices likely to decrease in Pakistan from 16 March

In a major relief for inflation-hit Pakistanis, petrol and diesel prices are expected to decrease by up to Rs15 per litre in the second half of March 2025.

Sources indicate that petrol prices may drop by around Rs15 per litre due to falling global oil prices, while diesel rates could see a reduction of Rs10-11 per litre.

The Oil and Gas Regulatory Authority (OGRA) is preparing a proposal for price adjustments, which will be submitted to the Prime Minister for approval. Once approved, the Finance Ministry will issue an official notification to implement the revised rates.

Expected Fuel Prices in Pakistan:

  • Petrol (Super): Rs240 per litre
  • Diesel: Rs248 per litre

Currently, petrol is priced at Rs255.63 per litre, while diesel costs Rs258.64 per litre for the first half of March 2025.

On the international market, Brent crude futures have dropped to $69.22 per barrel, while US West Texas Intermediate crude stands at $65.90 per barrel.

The decline is attributed to concerns over a possible US recession and the impact of tariffs on global economic growth, leading to a reduction in oil prices
