Pakistani rangers arrest Indian BSF soldier after border incident

Pakistan Rangers arrested an Indian Border Security Force (BSF) soldier on Thursday. He allegedly crossed the international border into Pakistani territory. The incident took place in Punjab’s Ferozepur region.

Indian media identified the soldier as Constable P.K. Singh from the 182nd battalion of the BSF. He was on routine patrol. Reports say Singh accidentally crossed the Indian border fence and entered Pakistani soil, sparking tensions.

These tensions worsened after a deadly attack in Indian Illegally Occupied Jammu and Kashmir (IIOJK). The assault killed 26 people, including a Nepali national. India blamed Pakistan for the attack. Islamabad denied the claim, calling it a false flag operation.

Pakistan said India aimed to divert attention from domestic issues, including the suspension of the Indus Waters Treaty. In response, Pakistan’s National Security Committee (NSC) took several retaliatory steps.

It closed Pakistani airspace to Indian aircraft, suspended all trade, and cancelled SAARC visas for Indian nationals. The NSC warned that any Indian attempt to divert water into Pakistan would be considered an act of war.

It also expelled Indian defence advisers, reduced Indian High Commission staff, and gave Indian citizens in Pakistan a 48-hour exit deadline. Pakistani leaders warned they might suspend all bilateral agreements, including the Simla Agreement, if India continues hostile actions.
