Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif on Saturday expressed Pakistan’s willingness to participate in a “neutral, transparent and credible” investigation into the recent Pahalgam attack, amidst escalating tensions with India.
Speaking at the passing-out parade at the Pakistan Military Academy (PMA) in Kakul, he reaffirmed that the country’s armed forces were fully prepared to defend Pakistan’s sovereignty.
Shehbaz emphasized that while Pakistan preferred peace, it would not tolerate any threats to its dignity or security, stating, “Peace is our preference but must not be mistaken for weakness.”
He also warned that any attempt to block or divert Pakistan’s share of water would trigger a strong response, stressing that water was crucial for Pakistan’s survival.
Criticizing India’s allegations without evidence, he reiterated Pakistan’s support for the Kashmiri people’s right to self-determination.
Shehbaz highlighted the immense sacrifices made by Pakistan in the fight against terrorism and its ongoing support for Kashmir’s struggle.
Addressing regional issues, he reiterated Pakistan’s desire for peace with Afghanistan but noted the ongoing terrorist activities emanating from Afghan territory.
He also criticized India’s treatment of its minorities, urging India to ensure their rights under international obligations.
On the economic front, the prime minister spoke about Pakistan’s recovery, noting the progress in key sectors and attracting foreign investment.
He also stressed that Pakistan’s diplomacy had strengthened old alliances and forged new global relationships.
At the ceremony, he congratulated the cadets for their hard work and commitment, presenting awards to those excelling in their training.
