Pakistan to import 500,000 tons of sugar

ISLAMABAD: The Sugar Advisory Board has given the green light to import 500,000 tons of sugar in an effort to ease the supply crunch and stabilize market prices.

During the meeting, Food Security Minister Rana Tanvir Hussain said the necessary steps for the sugar import would be finalized in the coming days.

He stressed that bringing in sugar from abroad had become essential to help bring prices under control.

“There is a shortage of sugar supply across the country; therefore, immediate steps have been taken to control the shortage,” he noted, assuring that the imported sugar would soon reach markets to provide relief to the public.
