The government of Pakistan has asked citizens to refrain from traveling to Iran for a limited period of time, because of concern about Israeli attacks on Iran. Officials have mentioned that they are closely keeping an eye on the evolving situation in the region.
As per the instructions of PM Shehbaz Sharif, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs has initiated measures to ensure the safe return of citizens currently in Iran.
According to diplomatic sources, thousands of Pakistani travellers and pilgrims were abandoned in Iran. One traveller stated that the only emergency contact of the Pakistani embassy in Tehran was closed.
Furthermore, sources affirmed that the Pakistani ambassador to Iran is on leave in Pakistan. Moreover, travellers in Iraq also complained that they haven’t been answered by the Pakistani embassy, although the embassy is reportedly functioning as usual.
Israel launched missile attacks on Friday on Iran targeting its nuclear and military sites, killing several of Iran’s top military commanders and forcing a counter-attack by Iran in one of the most serious escalations in recent times.
