KARACHI: Pakistan and Russia held a joint naval drill, “Arabian Monsoon-VI,” in the North Arabian Sea this week to strengthen cooperation against maritime threats. The exercise involved warships, aircraft, and unmanned drones from both navies, along with Pakistan Air Force fighter jets.
Pakistan Navy deployed a destroyer, patrol vessel, missile-equipped fast attack craft, and surveillance aircraft. Russian naval ships joined the drills, which included simulated combat scenarios and coordinated patrols. The goal was to improve teamwork and readiness to tackle piracy, smuggling, and other security challenges.
Before the sea drills, Russian ships docked in Karachi for planning sessions, cross-deck visits, and harbor training. Russian officials also met with Pakistan Navy leaders and honored Pakistan’s founder, Muhammad Ali Jinnah, by laying flowers at his mausoleum.
The exercise highlights growing defense ties between the two nations, once Cold War rivals. Recent years have seen closer cooperation in energy, trade, and military training. Pakistan Navy stated such partnerships aim to ensure safe seas and regional stability.
This marks the sixth edition of the “Arabian Monsoon” drills, reflecting both countries’ shared focus on securing vital shipping routes. Pakistan regularly collaborates with global allies to promote peace and counter illegal activities at sea.
