New gas, oil reserves discovered in Pakistan

The Oil and Gas Development Company Limited (OGDCL) has discovered gas and condensate at the Soghri North-1 well in Attock district, Punjab, as part of its exploration efforts.

Drilled on May 21, 2024, the well reached a depth of 4,942 meters in the Patala Formation.

Based on wireline log interpretations, a cased hole drill stem test (DST-1) was conducted in the Chorgali-Sakesar-Nammal-Patala Formations.

“The well flowed (after completion and post acid job) at the rate of 13.95 Million Standard Cubic Feet (MMSCFD) gas along with 430 barrels per day (BPD) of condensate through choke size 32/64″ at wellhead flowing pressure (WHFP) of 2890 Pounds Per square inch (Psi) from Chorgali and Sakesar Formations,” stated the official press release.

This discovery strengthens confidence in further exploration within the Soghri license area while also helping to bridge the energy demand and supply gap using domestic resources.

It will contribute to increasing hydrocarbon reserves for both OGDCL and the country.
