NADRA launches smart CNIC with lifetime validity for organ donors

The National Database and Registration Authority (NADRA) has introduced a new initiative that offers lifelong Computerised National Identity Cards (CNICs) to Pakistani citizens who willingly choose to become organ donors.

These updated Smart National Identity Cards will include a green heart symbol, signifying the cardholder’s pledge to contribute to humanity through organ donation.

Citizens aged 18 and older can get these marked Smart CNICs or National Identity Cards for Overseas Pakistanis (NICOP) by visiting any NADRA registration center. This option is also available through the Pak-ID mobile app for added convenience.

In a separate development, NADRA has also rolled out a digital system for registering births and deaths directly at hospitals and healthcare facilities across the country.

A NADRA spokesperson shared that agreements have been signed with provincial governments to revamp and modernize the civil registration process.

A formal ceremony took place in Karachi to mark this collaboration, where Sindh’s Secretary of Health, Secretary of Local Government, and NADRA Sindh DG Ehtesham Shahid signed the agreement. Sindh Minister for Local Government Saeed Ghani was also present to witness the event.
