The National Database and Registration Authority (NADRA) has rolled out a digital system to register births and deaths at hospitals and healthcare facilities throughout Pakistan.
To enhance the civil registration process, NADRA signed agreements with the provincial governments of Sindh and Balochistan in separate signing ceremonies.
In Sindh, the agreement was signed by the Secretary Health, Secretary Local Government, and NADRA’s Director General for Karachi. Sindh’s Local Government Minister, Mr. Saeed Ghani, was also present at the signing.
NADRA is working on overhauling the process of civil registration by introducing digital solutions to record vital life events. With this new system, birth and death records will now be submitted directly from hospitals and health centers.
The data collected will be added to the national database promptly, ensuring accurate and up-to-date citizen records.
According to NADRA, these records will support economic development by driving forward digital initiatives under the government’s “Uraan Pakistan” program.
The updated information will also serve as the foundation for new ventures like digital identification systems and Pakistan’s growing digital economy.
With backing from the World Bank, NADRA is currently implementing the “Digital Economy Enhancement Project” in collaboration with key national organizations.
Free ID cards for first-time applicants
Separately, NADRA has also announced that first-time applicants for non-chip-based national identity cards will now be issued cards free of cost.
