The National Database and Registration Authority (NADRA) is responsible for issuing Computerised National Identity Cards (CNIC) to Pakistani citizens aged 18 and above. Using state-of-the-art technology and secure measurements, these cards includes individual’s all details.
The 13 digit CNIC number is a unique code for accessing various essential services, including bank accounts, driver’s licenses, passports, tax registration, mobile connections, and public sector benefits.
Beyond basic identification, CNICs are integrated into multiple sectors such as healthcare and education. They are used to authenticate medical records and confirm eligibility for school admissions.
For first-time registration, applicants must visit their nearest NADRA registration center with a birth certificate or matriculation result card, along with the CNIC copy of a close family member.
As of July 2025, the federal government has decided to keep the fee unchanged in economic year 2025-26. Under the normal processing category, first-time applicants receive their card free of charge.
Those opting for faster service can choose the urgent category for Rs1,150 or the executive category for Rs2,150. Processing durations vary accordingly, with normal cards issued in 15 days, urgent in 12 days, and executive cards delivered within 6 days.
