Massive fire breaks out in Korangi Crossing, Karachi

Efforts are ongoing to put out a massive fire that broke out late Friday in the Korangi Crossing area of Karachi after a gas pipeline was reportedly damaged during underground water drilling.

Ten fire tender teams are on-site trying to control the fire, which has been categorized as a “Third Grade” fire due to its intensity.

Despite more than seven hours of firefighting, the flames continue to burn, as water and foam have proven ineffective.

According to reports, the fire erupted after water boring was completed and gas began leaking while the pipes were being removed. Thick smoke overtook the surrounding areas.

A fire officer stated that the cause of the incident would be determined once the flames were fully extinguished. Sui Southern Gas Company officials have arrived, and police have sealed off the area.

He also emphasized the need for helicopters or trucks to fill the pit with soil, as traditional firefighting methods are not working.

Sindh Governor Kamran Tessori has ordered emergency measures to control the fire and urged the government to provide a helicopter to help extinguish the flames.
