A comprehensive plan has been launched to make Lahore Pakistan’s first “dust-free city,” with stricter regulations being introduced to manage construction-related pollution.
Secretary of Housing and Urban Development, Noor-ul-Amin Mengal, visited the Lahore Development Authority (LDA) headquarters, where Director General Tahir Farooq gave him an overview of current and upcoming development efforts.
Mengal stressed the importance of all development-related departments working under the same set of standards.
He also mentioned that new laws would be introduced to govern the external appearance of commercial buildings. “Environmental sustainability,” he said, “would be prioritized in all urban development efforts.”
He pointed out that using consistent standards across all projects would lead to better long-term planning and resource management.
Mengal also expressed concern over the disorder in Lahore’s commercial landscape, saying the lack of coordination has led to unattractive and mismatched buildings.
He called for a unified approach to development so that all departments are aligned in promoting organized and sustainable city growth.
During the meeting, the LDA chief shared several updates. He said that property records have now been digitized, and building plan approvals can be done online.
For the first time, the authority has generated over Rs25 billion in revenue, and 990 kanals of land, worth billions, have been reclaimed. LDA-monitored areas are now being tracked through a digital monitoring system.
Representatives from NESPAK also attended the meeting and presented the proposed design for the Yellow Line Bus Service.
