A rain system has settled over Lahore and much of Punjab, with showers expected tomorrow across several districts, the Pakistan Meteorological Department said.
While today is forecasted to remain hot and dry, including in Lahore, rain and cloud cover are expected to move in by Friday.
Lahore saw a minimum temperature of 22°C today, and the mercury could rise as high as 39°C before the rain brings some relief from the heatwave.
In upper Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa and Gilgit-Baltistan, isolated thunderstorms and rain may also occur later today.
Elsewhere, several cities reported the following morning temperatures: Islamabad 18°C, Karachi 28°C, Peshawar and Quetta 20°C, Gilgit and Murree 13°C, and Muzaffarabad 16°C.
On Wednesday, powerful storms lashed parts of Punjab, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, and Islamabad.
Heavy rain, hail, and strong winds left a trail of destruction, leading to at least three deaths and multiple injuries. Property, crops, and infrastructure were also severely damaged.
In Punjab’s Rawalpindi and Jhelum, wall collapses caused by the rain led to several casualties. In Sohawa, two people were killed and four injured when a wall fell on a vehicle. Other wall collapse incidents injured a woman, a child, and a young man.
A tragic incident occurred in Rawalpindi’s Ratta Amral area where a mosque’s boundary wall collapsed, instantly killing a 24-year-old man named Musa.
Islamabad was hit with a 35-minute storm, marked by intense rain and hail that damaged cars and uprooted trees, especially in Tarnol, causing traffic delays.
Khyber Pakhtunkhwa also faced flash floods, with streams overflowing in multiple areas. In Landi Kotal, a parked vehicle was swept away by floodwater along the Pak-Afghan highway, though no injuries were reported.
Lower Dir and Takht Bhai also saw heavy rain, which eased the heatwave but led to power outages and rising water levels in the Panjkora River.
