Lahore boils at 42°C as heatwave grips Punjab until April 30, PMD Warn

Lahore suffered scorching heat at 42°C on Tuesday. Experts have forecast that the heatwave will continue to grip Punjab, with meteorologists warning it will last through Wednesday due to a strong high-pressure system over much of the country.

According to the Pakistan Meteorological Department (PMD), this pressure system is expected to remain in place until April 30, driving temperatures 4°C to 6°C above average in upper and central Punjab, and 5°C to 7°C above normal in the southern parts.

The public, particularly children, the elderly, and women, are advised to stay indoors during peak afternoon hours and keep hydrated to avoid heat-related illnesses.

In the coming days, Lahore’s temperature is forecast to hover between 42°C and 44°C on Wednesday and between 41°C and 43°C on Thursday.

Over the past 24 hours, hot and dry conditions prevailed across most of Punjab, with extreme heat reported in the south. Rahim Yar Khan topped the charts with a searing 46°C, followed by Sargodha at 45°C and Dera Ghazi Khan at 44°C.

In Lahore, the morning humidity stood at 37 percent alongside the 42°C maximum temperature, while Hyderabad recorded 43°C with 64 percent humidity in the evening.
