Kuwait resumes visa access for Pakistanis after 13-year ban

The Kuwaiti government has officially resumed issuing multiple types of visas to Pakistani nationals, marking a key development in strengthening ties between the two countries and addressing workforce demands, as reported by several Gulf media outlets on Monday.

According to Gulf News, Pakistan’s Ambassador to Kuwait, Dr. Zaffar Iqbal, shared that there are plans to send 1,200 Pakistani nurses to Kuwait’s healthcare sector. He noted that the first group of 125 nurses had already arrived in the country last week.

Media reports highlighted that Kuwait had suspended visas for citizens of Pakistan, Iran, Syria, and Afghanistan back in 2011 due to security concerns.

Now, the visa services have reopened for Pakistani nationals, including work, family, visit, tourist, and commercial categories.

The representative of Pakistan’s Overseas Ministry welcomed this move, saying it would open doors for employment, business, and tourism for many Pakistanis and could lead to increased remittances for the country.

As reported by the Arab Times, Ambassador Iqbal confirmed that Pakistanis have begun receiving approvals for different visa types, restoring a crucial pathway for employment and travel.

In a conversation with Arab News, he also revealed that Pakistan and Kuwait are close to finalizing a new labour memorandum of understanding (MoU), aimed at easing worker exchanges and strengthening cooperation.

“Some provisions are already being implemented ahead of the formal signing,” he stated.
