KP Police launch safe city project

In a key step to boost security and protect citizens, the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Police has officially rolled out the Safe City Project in the high-risk southern districts of Dera Ismail Khan, Bannu, and Lakki Marwat, which have faced years of violence and instability.

A formal agreement was signed at the Central Police Office between the police and the National Radio and Telecommunication Corporation (NRTC).

Representing the police were DIG IT and Project Director Rai Ejaz Ahmad, while GM Commercial Syed Amir Javed signed on behalf of NRTC.

The event was attended by top police officials, including Inspector General Zulfiqar Hameed, Additional IGP Headquarters Awal Khan, and Additional IGP Operations Muhammad Ali Babakhel, highlighting the importance of this project for the province’s security strategy.

This new phase follows the recent launch of the Peshawar Safe City Project, which had faced multiple delays. After completing detailed surveys and securing PC-1 approval, the initiative for the southern districts has now entered its execution stage.

Project highlights include:

  • D.I. Khan will be equipped with over 400 high-resolution cameras installed at 86 key locations.
  • Bannu will have more than 300 cameras placed at 69 sites.
  • Lakki Marwat is set to receive over 250 cameras covering 41 locations.

This technology-driven approach aims to improve surveillance, reduce crime, and enhance emergency response, bringing much-needed relief to communities affected by security threats for years.
