Karachi weather update: Heavy rain, thunderstorms expected tonight

The Pakistan Meteorological Department (PMD) has predicted more heavy rain for Karachi today as the ongoing monsoon system continues to affect the region.

According to the latest figures, Gulshan-e-Hadeed received the highest rainfall yesterday, recording 17 millimetres. Other parts of the city also saw considerable showers.

Shahrah-e-Faisal recorded 12 millimetres, the Old City areas got nine millimetres, Defence Phase II saw 7.8 millimetres, the airport recorded five millimetres, and University Road received two millimetres of rain.

The PMD stated that the weather system currently impacting the region, which includes parts of India’s Gujarat and the nearby northern Arabian Sea, has gained strength and has now developed into a low-pressure area.

This system is likely to bring more scattered rain to various parts of Sindh, especially in the southern and coastal areas, over the next two to three days.

Despite the showers yesterday, the city continues to experience muggy conditions, with temperatures hovering between 37 and 40 degrees Celsius.

According to the forecast, Karachi can expect moderate to heavy rainfall from this afternoon through late tonight, and some areas may witness thunderstorms with intense downpours.

The current spell of monsoon rains is expected to persist in Karachi and other parts of Sindh until July 1, with more showers anticipated in the coming days.
