KARACHI: The Karachi Traffic Police (KTP) has rolled out a detailed traffic management plan for Muharram, covering the 8th to 10th of the month.
The plan outlines procession routes, alternate roads for regular commuters, and access restrictions in various parts of the city to ensure public safety and smoother traffic flow.
Procession Routes and Road Closures
From July 5 to 7, major Muharram processions will begin at Nishtar Park and conclude at Hussainiya Iraniyan Imam Bargah. As a security measure, MA Jinnah Road will be closed from Guru Mandir to Tower during these processions.
Participants from different areas have designated routes to reach Numaish:
- Nazimabad: Lasbela → Albela → Garden Jamaat Khana → Soldier Bazaar No. 3 → Numaish
- Liaquatabad: Tin Hatti → Jahangir Road → Guru Mandir → Numaish
- Society Area: Society light signal → Numaish
- Gulistan-e-Johar & Gulshan-e-Iqbal: University Road → Old Sabzi Mandi → Kashmir Road → Society light signal → Numaish
Vehicles distributing sabeel, niaz, or tabarruk will only be allowed access to the procession route from Tower via Memon Mosque.
Alternate Routes for Commuters
To avoid disruption, the traffic police suggested alternative roads:
- From Nazimabad, use Lasbela Chowk → Nishtar Road via Garden
- From Liaquatabad, turn at Tin Hatti toward Lasbela Chowk or Martin Road for Central Jail
- From Hassan Square to PP Chowrangi, use Kashmir Road under Jail Flyover → Society Light Signal or proceed to Tin Hatti → Nishtar Road
- In District East, travelers using Sharea Faisal → Shahrah-e-Quaideen → Numaish should reroute via Society Light Signal and Kashmir Road
Heavy and commercial vehicles from Super Highway and Gulberg will be diverted at Liaquatabad toward Nazimabad Chowrangi, then through Habib Bank Flyover, State Avenue Road, Shershah, and Maripur. The same roads will be used on the return.
Importantly, no vehicle without an official procession sticker will be allowed past Gurumandir Chowk onto MA Jinnah Road.
Security Measures
Sindh Senior Minister Sharjeel Memon stated that “foolproof” security measures have been put in place for Muharram.
Over 49,000 police personnel will be stationed across key cities including Karachi, Hyderabad, Sukkur, Larkana, Mirpurkhas, and Shaheed Benazirabad.
In Karachi alone, more than 20,000 officers and law enforcement personnel will remain on duty through Ashura to ensure the safety of participants and the general public.
