KARACHI: The city of lights, Karachi, is gearing up for gusty winds and soaring temperatures, as a severe heatwave tightens its grip over the Sindh region.
The authorities have cautioned the public to expect very hot and dry conditions, along with dusty winds in several parts of the province.
According to the latest forecast, coastal areas might see some partial cloud cover, but the general weather pattern remains dry and sweltering.
Around midday on Monday, the RealFeel temperature in Karachi was recorded at 38°C, with moderate humidity and wind gusts reaching 30 km/h from the west-southwest.
Karachi weather update
The Pakistan Meteorological Department (PMD) has issued a fresh advisory stating that the intense heatwave is likely to extend through the coming weekend and into next week.
Daytime temperatures across northern and central parts of the country such as Punjab, Islamabad, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, Kashmir, and Gilgit-Baltistan are forecasted to stay 5 to 7 degrees above the seasonal average.
In the southern belt including Sindh, southern Punjab, and parts of Balochistan, temperatures are expected to be 4 to 6 degrees higher than usual.
Meteorologists attribute the ongoing heatwave to dry continental winds and a persistent high-pressure system hovering over the upper atmosphere. This system is expected to remain in place for another four to five days.
However, a weak westerly disturbance may bring slight changes during the evenings and nights in some upper parts of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa.
In view of the extreme heat, residents are urged to take safety measures, stay well-hydrated, avoid direct sunlight, and follow official weather updates for timely guidance.
