The first phase of Karachi’s intermediate examinations for 2025 will begin on Monday, May 5, with more than 126,500 students set to participate in the science and home economics groups.

The Board of Intermediate Education Karachi (BIEK) has announced that the exams will continue through Thursday, May 29, with students appearing in both morning and evening sessions.

Over 92,000 students from Pre-Medical, Pre-Engineering, and Home Economics will take their exams in the morning shift from 9am to 12pm, while around 34,500 General Science students will appear in the evening shift from 2pm to 5pm.

To accommodate the large number of candidates, 182 examination centres have been set up across the city, 122 for the morning and 60 for the evening. Of these, 36 centres have been marked as highly sensitive.

BIEK Chairman Prof. Ghulam Hussain Sohoo confirmed that all necessary steps have been taken to ensure the exams are conducted fairly and transparently.

Two central monitoring cells have been established at the Karachi Commissioner’s Office and the BIEK headquarters to oversee the process and deter cheating.

Additionally, complaint cells have been placed in the Deputy Commissioners’ offices in each district, with board representatives available to handle any concerns.

Given the anticipated heatwave during the exam period, the board has requested support from the Sindh Emergency & Rescue Service 1122, asking for two ambulances to be stationed at the central control room.

The Sindh Health Department has also been approached to provide first aid camps and ensure that first aid kits and ambulances are stationed outside all exam centres.
