In light of dangerous sea conditions, Karachi’s local authorities have enforced an eight-day restriction on beach visits under Section 144, as reported.
The ban, effective from June 6 to June 13, 2025, covers several popular spots including KANNUP Beach, Sunerah Beach, Mubarak Village, Turtle Beach, and Dua Chowk Beach.
The Karachi Metropolitan Corporation (KMC) requested the ban due to an increase in drowning cases and strong tides during the monsoon season.
Under the order, all forms of beach-related activities, such as swimming, diving, and general recreation, are prohibited to prevent accidents.
Commissioner Syed Hassan Naqvi explained that the ban is a precautionary move to keep the public safe. Law enforcement has been instructed to act against violators under Section 195(i)(a) and Section 188 of the Pakistan Penal Code.
Authorities also noted that the ban could be extended if unsafe sea conditions persist and have asked citizens to fully comply with the restrictions during this period.
Meanwhile, in Lahore, the Punjab government has also invoked Section 144 from June 5 to June 11, 2025, to ensure public safety during the Eid al-Adha holidays. The move follows concerns over unhygienic practices linked to Eid celebrations.
The official notice bans burning animal remains like heads and trotters in open areas and strictly prohibits dumping waste or offal in drains, canals, or other water sources. These steps aim to prevent pollution and maintain public hygiene.
District administrations and law enforcement agencies have been instructed to enforce the rules and take legal action where needed.
