The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) has suspended the 2025 Indian Premier League (IPL) indefinitely amid rising hostilities with Pakistan.
The announcement was made following an emergency meeting held on Friday. This move leaves 12 league matches and four knockout games, including the final slated for May 25 in Kolkata, on hold.
The decision followed an incident where the Punjab Kings vs Delhi Capitals match in Dharamsala was halted midway on May 8, and the crowd was evacuated. A senior BCCI official stated, “Continuing cricket while the nation faces conflict is inappropriate.”
Meanwhile, the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) has officially confirmed that the remaining eight matches of the HBL Pakistan Super League Season 10 (PSL 10) will be held in the United Arab Emirates (UAE).
This relocation was announced by PCB Chairman Mohsin Naqvi in response to Indian drone strikes across several Pakistani cities, including Lahore, Gujranwala, Rawalpindi, Attock, Bahawalpur, and Karachi.
The attacks, which included a strike near the Rawalpindi Cricket Stadium, were labelled by the PCB as a “dangerous and irresponsible” act.
Speaking at a press conference on Thursday, DG ISPR Lt Gen Ahmed Sharif Chaudhry revealed that the drone strikes resulted in the death of one civilian and injuries to four soldiers.
He said India had committed a serious violation by targeting civilian areas and mosques during the night of May 7–8.
On May 7, Pakistan’s armed forces responded by downing five Indian Air Force jets, a combat drone, and destroying a brigade HQ along with several checkposts near the Line of Control (LoC), according to Lt Gen Chaudhry.
