If you’re thinking about using an imported or unregistered mobile phone in Pakistan without paying the tax set by the Pakistan Telecommunication Authority (PTA), be aware that you won’t be able to use any SIM card in it.
PTA has enforced strict rules through its Device Identification, Registration and Blocking System (DIRBS), making it necessary for all mobile phones to be registered.
To clarify, the PTA tax is made up of import duties and other government charges applied to phones brought into the country.
How to Check Your Mobile’s PTA Tax and Registration Status
Daily Magazine has put together a simple guide to help you find out your phone’s registration and tax status using three official methods:
Through the PTA DIRBS Website
- Go to: https://dirbs.pta.gov.pk
- Enter your phone’s 15-digit IMEI number
- You’ll see one of the following results:
- Compliant (your phone is registered)
- Non-compliant (tax is due)
- Blocked (the phone won’t work in Pakistan)
By SMS to 8484
- Dial *#06# to get your phone’s IMEI number
- Send that IMEI as an SMS to 8484
- PTA will respond with your phone’s registration status
Through the DVS Mobile App
- Download and open the PTA Device Verification System (DVS) app
- Enter or scan your IMEI number
- The app will show your phone’s PTA status instantly
PTA has made the tax payment process easy by allowing users to pay through JazzCash, Easypaisa, mobile banking, ATMs and official mobile apps. These legal methods ensure that registering your mobile device is hassle-free and straightforward.
