Hot, dry weather to continue across Pakistan, says PMD

Hot and dry weather is expected to persist across most parts of Pakistan in the coming days, with particularly intense heat forecast for the southern plains, according to the Pakistan Meteorological Department (PMD) on Tuesday.

The PMD explained that continental air is dominating much of the country, which is driving the continued dry and hot conditions.

While most regions will stay dry, there’s a chance of isolated rain, wind, and thunderstorms in Gilgit-Baltistan, Kashmir, and upper Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa on Tuesday.

Similar conditions are expected to continue on Wednesday, with temperatures set to climb further, especially in Sindh and southern Punjab.

The PMD cautioned that afternoons in these regions will likely be “very hot,” with Sindh bearing the brunt of the heat.

Over the past 24 hours, most areas saw hot and dry weather, though some parts of Upper Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa and Gilgit-Baltistan received light rainfall.

Kalam recorded 6 mm, Pattan 4 mm, Chilas 5 mm, Gupis 3 mm, and Skardu, Bunji, and Bagrote each had 2 mm of rain.

On Monday, Dadu experienced the country’s highest temperature at a scorching 47°C. Other hot spots included Khairpur, Mohenjo-Daro, and Larkana, each registering 45°C.

Looking ahead, the PMD expects these weather conditions to continue through Thursday, with no major changes in temperature patterns anticipated.

People are urged to drink plenty of water, avoid going out during peak sunlight hours, and take necessary steps to protect themselves in the heat.
