Heavy rains trigger power outages in twin cities

Heavy rainfall caused widespread power disruptions across Islamabad, Rawalpindi, and nearby areas, as multiple underground and overhead feeders experienced faults and tripping. Some feeders were also shut down as a precautionary measure.

A spokesperson for the Islamabad Electric Supply Company (IESCO) explained that water accumulation has slowed down restoration efforts, making it harder for teams to address power complaints quickly.

Despite the challenges, repair work is actively underway in the impacted areas.

“The spokesperson urged citizens to follow safety guidelines during rainy conditions.” People have been advised to stay away from electric poles, transformers, meters, and similar infrastructure.

Additionally, touching electrical appliances with wet hands or while wet should be strictly avoided.

He also stressed that if anyone sees broken wires, they should not attempt to touch them and must immediately report the issue to the complaint office.

Households are encouraged to use high-quality wiring, ensure regular maintenance, and install circuits out of children’s reach.

The official further warned against tying animals to electric poles or transformers and against building houses near power lines.

“In case of an emergency, citizens can contact IESCO through Helpline 118 or the Complaint and Monitoring Cell at 051-9252933.”
